How To Overcome Worry and Anxiety with Quotable Bible verses

Worry is something most of us can't do without. In fact, at one point or the other everyone gets concerned about a particular thing, but some few people have learnt how not to dwell too much on their feelings, and how they do this is by applying few scriptural verses to the situation and boom! they are back on their feet.

Truth is, in reality, what I just said is the opposite of what happens to most people, anxiety could be so overwhelming to the extent that it starts leading to discouragement and depression.

This article has been written to give practical steps and strategy that can be used to overcome worry, anxiety and stress by using quotable biblical verses that are soul lifting.

Words of Encouragement - Reasons why you shouldn't worry

Jesus was asking his disciples in Luke 12:25 and also in Matthew 6:27 that; "Can anyone by worrying add a single hour to his life?" Worry does not help in anyway, and there has been no proven benefit of worry, however, we easily find ourselves in this condtion. One thing to remember whenever you are in a position that will get you into worrying is to focus on the reasons why you shouldn't worry with these verses of the bible.

Matthew 6:34

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Explanation: There is always this worry about the future, about what’s about to happen next and so on.
Meanwhile, the challenges of today's are just enough to face…. If we can live each day as it comes, trusting God for the next, we will all live a better life.

1 Peter 5:7

 - Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.
Explanation: This verse is another reminder of God’ position in our situation. He cares and He will always do. So it is normal to put our pressure on Him and not on ourselves, He will handle them better.

2 Corinthians 4:8

 - We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;
Explanation: Challenges will arise, that’s certain. But when they do, they shouldn’t take our peace, because the peace that God gives, the pleasures of the world can’t afford it, and that is why the Devil will try everything possible to steal our peace, our love, joy and happiness. But just like Paul said in this letter to the Corinthians, we are pressed on every side but not crushed. So, we are also to keep hope alive when going through our inevitable challenges.

Trust - What to do instead of worrying

A lot of people wish to stop worrying, but they do not have something else to do apart from worrying. The devil seems to take over idle mind and fill it with negative thoughts, so instead of being empty when you choose not to worry, that it the right time to start trusting God that he can handle all of the trouble and grant you peace and joy. Here are few verses to help you boost your confidence in God.

Proverbs 3:5

- Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.

Explanation: When you are going through trials and tough times at work or in the family, it is good to remember that God is the all source of wisdom and strength and the best is to depend on him and his words.

There are times people tell you about what could work or not work when dealing with your personal challenges. Before compelling yourself to submit to people’s advice make sure they comply with God’s words of promise.

Psalm 37:5

Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will do it.
Explanation: See what the last verse says? He will do it. It is an assurance…. But there’s a condtion, you will have to commit them into his hands, God does not poke nose into people’s affair, but if you invite him in by committing things into His hands, He gets up to work, because he is a responsible God who does not disappoint.

Psalm 62:8

 - Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.
Explanation: One thing a lot of us need to learn is how to pour our hearts to God. He is the best listener.
According to Romans 8 vs 26, the Holy Spirit makes intercessions for us through our groanings, how much more when we talk to God in prayers.
Psychology has it that, when we talk to someone about a problem, there are chances that the solution to that problem will start to surface, even before the other party starts responding.

Psalm 46:10

 - Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Explanation: This particular verse encourages us to be still, be calm and trust God. The knowledge of who God is gives us a measure of the understanding of what He can do as well. Hence, the best response for pressure is REST.

Jeremiah 29:11

 - For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a future and a hope.
Explanation: We all sometimes want thing to go in our way, sometimes we want it faster, or bigger. But God’s plan for everyone is just perfect, and while the things we crave for can harm us, God’s plan and will not only prosper us, it will give us hope and a future.

Remember, your plan for yourself cannot be better than God’s plan for you.

Declaration - Beyond Trusting, See God at Work

When you have started trusting God, trust me it's a gradual process, and as your mind is renewed every day, you get to see God in a different light, and this will increase your faith. While doing this, here are bible verses that you can declare and will bring you victory over worry and the pressures of life.

Psalm 18:2

 - The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Explanation: There is a need for reassurance and words to activate your faith in God. Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated and pushed to the wall. The Lord’s arm is always ready to safe whoever is willing enough to come to Him and accept Him.

Psalm 16:8

 - I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
Explanation: I love the NLT translation of this verse, it reassures us and reaffirms God’s position in whatever situation we are in. Put these words in your mouth and you will be at rest at every point of your life.

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
Explanation: I know this is a popular verse, but most of us don’t just know how powerful it is. This is a positive declaration in the midst of tumult and confusion. This verse is also a prayer of shield against any unforeseen evil

Psalm 46:1-3

 - God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change  And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.
Explanation: The word says God is a present help, I once heard a preacher saying that the word “present” means “Pre-Sent”. That has already sent himself ahead of the situation to take care of it before it even happens to you.
So when tough times come, and they crash you down or push you to the wall, remember God has sent himself ahead of you and taken care of the situation all you have to do is to see what God needs you to do
